Learn Gurmukhi Reading, Writing, and Pronunciation
1:1 sessions for English speakers and non-native Punjabi speakers to build solid skills with the script and sounds.

Approach to Gurmukhi Learning
The focus is on learning the Gurmukhi script from scratch, developing the ability to read and, over time, write with confidence. Pronunciation is strengthened through focused practice and repetition, with careful attention to individual sounds and common challenges. Once the foundations are in place, study progresses to more complex sound combinations and selected passages from Gurbani.

Respect for Gurbani
Learning the Gurmukhi script is important for anyone interested in reading, reciting, and listening to Gurbani. The Sikh tradition is unique in that there is a written record of the exact words spoken by the Gurus. With loving devotion, there is an opportunity to repeat those same sounds.
These lessons emphasize:
- Accurate pronunciation (santhiya): careful attention to sounds, pauses, and rhythm so Gurbani is read as clearly as possible.
- Respect for the script and Shabad: treating Gurbani as the living Guru and handling materials with appropriate respect.

About the Teacher
Himmat Singh was born into Sikhi, grew up surrounded by Gurbani, and began learning Gurmukhi with fridge magnets at a young age. He spent twelve years living in Amritsar, Panjab, where he learned Gurmukhi more deeply and immersed himself in Sikh and Punjabi culture. In 2020, he began teaching Gurmukhi online, especially for English speakers and others who did not grow up with Punjabi spoken at home.
Lessons are held in English and begin from each student's current level. Sessions move at a steady pace, with space to revisit the basics whenever needed. Emphasis is placed on hearing and refining the fundamental sounds of Gurbani so that reading becomes clearer and more accurate over time, with suggestions for personal practice offered as appropriate.
